Putaway

Moving goods that have just been received from the unloading area to the shelf or bin where they will be stored, and recording that location.

Also called put-away, put away, stock putaway

Putaway is the step after receiving. Goods are checked in, then moved from the dock or front of the store room to their storage location. The location is recorded, so the system knows not just how much stock you have but where it is.

Stock that is received but never properly put away is the stock nobody can find. Cartons sit by the door, get counted twice or not at all, and pickers waste time. Recording the bin at putaway is what makes accurate picking possible later.

Forty cartons of soap arrive. The system suggests rack B-04, where the same product already sits. The worker moves them there and scans the shelf to confirm. Okount puts stock away to a bin, with a default bin per batch.
